The Clan Wallace came to us as an organisation without a website that had a massive global interest in the historic values and culture that they hold dear. They had a vision that all Celtic communities the World over could meet and celebrate and preserve all things connected to Scotland and its culture.

The amount of information and projects that were to contribute to this site seemed at first overwhelming, and the challenge was to organise and structure it in such a way that users would not succumb to this feeling too.

On the visual design side we felt that it was important to create an authentic and traditional Celtic feel that would not be overshadowed by tools used to create it, and the medium it was to be presented in.

We achieved this mainly by using a simple and intuitive navigation system whereby visitors could freely roam from section to section. However within each section we did not want to introduce sub menus as the possible number of sub-pages on this would disorientate them, therefore we used a linear navigation technique that would channel them down the path to all pages of only the project they were viewing at that time.

As well as text content the very nature of the site meant that we needed to create an online community with a subscription only area containing a chat room, forum and guest book for communication amongst members.

Other must haves for this site was a dynamic news area, petition forms and public opinion votes on the hot topics of the site, all of which have an administrative back end for easy content and results management.

The result is a truly international online community is created that can communicate, support and learn about all Scotland and its Celtic roots.
